The lingonberry is a favourite among Scandinavian countries and is often preserved in a jam. You’ll usually find it served with pancakes, savoury dishes (including meatballs) and even mashed potatoes.

Any Swede worth their salt will agree that IKEA meatballs are something to behold. Since the 2013 scandal in Europe when traces of horse meat were found in their meatballs, now customers are assured the meat used is tightly controlled. In Australia, which wasn’t affected by the scandal, they have always been made using beef and pork.

These pink sweet treats are traditionally made using layers of sponge cake and pastry cream before being covered with a layer of marzipan. You’ll also find them at most Swedish festivities, though the marzipan is usually green, not pink.

With a love for marzipan that knows no bounds, these Swedish pastries are coated in green marzipan and dipped in dark chocolate. They are usually served with tea or coffee.

Basically blueberry juice sweetened with sugar. Enough said.

If you weren’t convinced by actual meatballs, then this probably isn’t for you. Made using ingredients including chickpeas, carrots and kale, this vegetarian-friendly dish is, according to IKEA, able to reduce your carbon footprint. If that’s not Swedish ingenuity, we don’t what is.

Made from kelp harvested from the seabed, these caviar-like pearls are best used to top a canape or in salads for a salty burst of flavour.

This traditional bread is often served for breakfast, broken into pieces and paired with a variety of toppings – including lingonberry jam.

This is another one of IKEA’s questionable food offerings. Ready to eat from the jar, the fish is best served, according to their website, “as a crispbread topping as a meal between meals, with potatoes and boiled eggs as a light lunch, or as buffet ingredient”. We’ll let you decide on that one.

This one seriously takes the cake in our book. This is kitsch Swedish design at its best. Served as a dessert with coffee or tea, the cake is also gluten-free.
