In the realm of Australian snacking, Arnott’s biscuits have held a special place in the hearts and taste buds of generations. From the iconic Tim Tam to classic Shapes, they’re all household favourites. However, as time marches on, some bikkies have bid their farewell, leaving a trail of nostalgia and longing. These are the discontinued Arnott’s biscuits we can’t stop thinking about.
Sure you can still go ahead and buy the almost indistinguishable Milk Coffee biscuits but why would you want to settle for second best? Just look at this thing! It’s a work of art! The rich tapestry of swirls and sweeping lines, stamped with a classic cup and saucer? What a loss!
Lattice biscuits were the epitome of elegance in the biscuit world as far as we’re concerned. Their lattice pattern, flaky, pastry-like crunch and sweet jammy glaze were very grown up and will be missed.
A true retro Arnott’s bikkie, Adora Cream Wafers were discontinued years ago due to low demand. But these vanilla wafer fingers still have legions of fans. Nowadays, these exist as Tina Wafers, which incorporates chocolate and strawberry into the mix. Hardcore wafer fans will notice Tinas have a tighter grid pattern and crunchier taste.
Honey Jumbles, with their oval shapes and pink or white icing, were a quintessential Australian biscuit. Infused with the goodness of honey and a hint of gingery spice, these biscuits were the best.
As the name suggests, Creamy Chocolate biscuits were a chocolate lover’s dream. Two rich sweet biscuits with a creamy chocolate filling. Perfect. Vale.
Honey Snaps, another honey-infused wonder, were discontinued back in 1998. These thin, crisp biscuits were dark in colour and had a little hint of coconut. Bring them back, we say!
Bush Biscuits were sort of like an Arrowroot but tougher and bigger. Not really savoury, far from sweet, the Bush Biscuits were allegedly made for camping trips, but we’d happily munch on a buttered Bush biscuit in the backyard.
Jaffa Cakes were a true embodiment of flavour contrasts. A soft sponge base crowned with orange jam and coated in dark chocolate. Big on flavour, big on nostalgia.
At last we come to perhaps the most tragic loss of all. Quatro biscuits were like a comet streaming through the night sky. Brief but spectacular. A mix of chewy caramel, shortbread biscuit, salted peanuts and milk chocolate, the Quatro was intense but worth the stomach ache.
Despite the name, Coffee Scrolls didn’t actually contain any coffee. It was a sad day for the grown ups when we finally learned the biscuits were simply to be served with coffee. You mean it’s a biscuit? And it has pink icing? Hand them over, Mum!
