Essentially this kofte burger is two ‘meatball’ patties with caramelised onions, a soft herbed bun and yoghurt sauce. Kind of a kebab, kind of a burger, kind of sounds delicious.
Globe trot through the golden arches with McDonald's menus of the world
There’s something so satisfying and voyeuristic about seeing what cultures around the world do with universal staples. This study in anthropology is perhaps most insightful when you see what regional specials have made it onto the McDonald’s menus of the globe.
Osaka Okonomiyaki Burger - Japan
Yes. A thousand times yes. This limited-run burger special hailing from McDonalds Japan aims to emulate the Oasaka-style okonomiyaki, the savoury pancake of meat or seafood, cabbage, onions and a tangy katsu-esque sauce. This particular burger has mayonnaise, a fried egg, sea lettuce and pickled ginger.
McRaclette - Switzerland and France
Clearly even the French are willing to leave their judgements at the door, with a whole series of raclette burgers gracing the menus of France and Switzerland. This sounds pretty darn fancy for a Macca’s burger and we wouldn’t turn it down in a storm. A beef patty, crunchy pickles, onions, three slices of raclette cheese and a raclette sauce served on a warm floured bun.
Chicken McDo with McSpaghetti - The Philippines
This one may not be for everyone (do not tell the Italians) but there’s no denying the passionate love that Phillipinos have for fried chicken with a plate of spaghetti. It’s a staple of fast-food chain Jollibee and if McDonald’s can cash in on that fervour, more power to them.
Shrimp Beef Burger - South Korea
Surf and turf knows no borders and this South Korean special is proof. The beef patty is sandwiched between lettuce, tomato, a whole fried shrimp patty and a spicy onion sauce.
Dosa Masala Burger - India
Carbs on carbs on carbs. The Indian dosa masala burger is one of those ‘but why?’ situations. Turmeric-spiced mashed potato filling topped with fresh peas. Grilled and placed inside a soft whole wheat bun with a spicy molagapodi chutney mayo.
Malteser, Twix, and Peanut M’n’M McFlurries - Netherlands
So that’s where the good McFlurries have been hiding. Yes, sure we know that we have McFlurries in Australia but peanut M’n’Ms and Twix have got to be god-tier toppings and we’d like to know when to expect them here.
