Beloved Sydney venue The Wild Rover in Surry Hills has announced it will close its doors temporarily before emerging as The Rover this March. Toasting goodbye to it’s wilder days of foot-stomping shenanigans and whisky shooting, The Rover will bring the bustling charm of old and the sophistication of a dapper New York cocktail bar. While The Rover coming back with a facelift, it won’t totally reject its Irish heritage: the menu will feature refreshed tavern classics, such as buttery prawn rolls and the famous house-made lamb sausage rolls. A rotating supply of Clair de Lune oysters will feature alongside other east coast estuaries, plus creole-spiced fried Pacific oysters from Coffin Bay. With a new look, fresh name and sparkling new interiors, The Rover will also include an expanded dining offering, from the expertise of Executive Chef Pip Pratt, of Bistecca and The Gidley, to evolve the food menu to pair with The Rover’s already superb beverage line-up. The venue will close on Saturday 19th February and reopen as The Rover in mid March 2022.
