Pokémon Go is taking the world by storm. For the first time in years, Pokémon fever is once again in the air. On Instagram, people are going all out to celebrate the arrival of the game, hitting the kitchen to produce these so-called “pokéfoods”.

Pokémon Go is a game that uses your phone’s GPS to detect Pokémon, which “appear” in the world around you (at least on your screen) so you can go and catch them.

Based on bug catching – a popular hobby in Japan, where the games originated – the goal of the Pokémon games is to collect virtual creatures and make them fight one another.

In Pokémon Go, you have to travel around the real word, the game using your GPS and clock to detect your location on the in-game map and making Pokémon appear around you.

If you go to a park, you’ll see more grass- or bug-type Pokémon. If you go near a lake or ocean, you’ll be able to capture water species.

PokéStops are notable locations in the real world that are marked on your in-game map. You can go to these to get items, including Poké Balls and eggs that can hatch into full Pokémon.

To catch them all (and earn the medals and experience you need), you’re going to have to explore far and wide, during the day and night.

Pokémon Go is many people’s introduction into a type of game that blends the real world with a virtual one. This is called “augmented reality.” Augmented reality games use technology to enhance the world around us.

There are issues with the game. Four robbery suspects allegedly set up lure beacons on PokéStops to attract victims. There have also been reports of injuries due to the game – don’t walk into traffic while playing! – and police have had to warn players about going into places they’re not supposed to.

Pokémon Go gives you the opportunity to explore the world and catch some Pokémon along the way. Don’t pretend you don’t love the nostalgia of it, either.
