Everyone loves a Zooper Dooper. Whether you’re 6 or 60, the intense concentration that washes over every face when reaching in for the lucky dip is universal. The dwindling pack lying in the freezer makes it very clear that some flavours are top tier and others are… well… not so much. This is the entirely biased and utterly unscientific ranking of Zooper Dooper flavours, from worst to best.
Sorry, but who keeps inviting Orange to the party? Orange is that person you know from high school and keep bumping into when you’re out and about. It’s ok to have outgrown each other but Orange is taking it as a sign that you should become friends. Just give us the fruit, and leave the citric acid at home. And pretend to be on a phone call.
Just scraping in above Orange, comes Lime. It’s not that we have an issue with citrus flavours, but there’s no place for something as complex and fresh as Lime in a bag of Zooper Doopers.
This may be a controversial placement for a flavour like Blackcurrant. After all, everyone loves purple. Blackcurrant is not purple-flavoured. Purple is usually grape or berry in the sweet-treat universe. Blackcurrant is more akin to cough medicine, which makes the betrayal of the Blackcurrant Zooper Dooper that much more painful.
The flavour nobody asked for, Bubblegum is an entirely average Zooper Dooper. Somehow it still seems ‘new’ but to this writer, anyone born after the year 2000 is still a toddler. Bubblegum Zooper Doopers exude a similar energy. A delightfully Y2K, but ultimately unnecessary addition to the bunch. Bonus points for its blue colouring though.
A+ for effort, pineapple. We’re happy you’re here, please leave by 9pm. Tropicana vibes abound when you score a Pineapple Zooper Dooper and if we’re having a pool party, you’re going to make a wonderful addition to a cheat’s Pina Colada. No notes.
Something about a childhood treat and the colour pink just feels right. Is Fairy Floss the strongest flavour in the pack? Probably not. Did we only recently learn that ‘pink’ is Fairy Floss flavoured? Maybe. Are we jazzed to get one anyway? You betcha! If you’re a grown-up leaning into the silly nature of a Zooper Dooper, go big or go home.
Usually the first to run out in the 24-pack, Raspberry is a classic crowd-pleaser that ticks all the boxes.
No surprises here, folks. The illicit thrill of being allowed a Coca-Cola (ok, fine, not an actual Coca-Cola) when you’re a kid cannot be overstated. Combine that with the knowledge that you’re about to chomp down on a refreshing, sweet, lightly spiced ice block and you’ve reached Nirvana.
