Pinterest has decreed just what is coming our way.

It’s official – Pinterest is a foodie haven. More than ever before, people are turning to the site for cooking inspiration, with the food and drink category becoming one of the largest. Now, Pinterest gurus have looked into their algorithm-powered crystal ball to predict what food trends are in store for 2018. As to just what we (or more accurately our stomachs) can expect to be lusting for in 2018, it includes the following:

Diet-friendly frying
It’s time to retire the deep fryer – air fryers are a new gadget obsession, and a convenient way to eschew the guilt when you accidentally eat an entire bowl of chips.

Souping
Step aside juicing, souping is the newest trend for liquefied foods. Warm, nourishing and full of nutrients, pureed soups are soul warming and diet friendly.

Super coffee
Plain old coffee is so 2017. Next year, expect to hear about people mixing anything from protein powder to maca into their morning brew for an extra boost.

Moroccan flavours
North African spices will be the flavour du jour, according to this list. With saves rising a huge 2579 percent, classic Moroccan spices like Cumin, coriander and cardamom are all set to appear in a whole range of dishes.

Plant proteins
The move away from meat will gather even more momentum in 2018. Searches for plant proteins like lentils, hemp and quinoa went up 417 percent on the site.

Snap peas
Possibly the most obscure item on the list is the humble snap pea, which are set to shake up your classic snack repertoire. Get ready for dressed up varieties of peas and edamame.

Korean condiments
Sriracha might be about to fall from its lofty perch, according to this list. Korean condiments like Gochujang look like they’ll be occupying pantry shelves next year.

Ghee
Dairy beware – ghee and clarified butter’s rich nutty flavour and lactose-free status makes it an attractive spread.

Vegan desserts
Fancy a cheesecake with no cheese, or ice cream with no cream? Vegan desserts that substitute non-vegan ingredients for options like coconut cream and flax seeds are continuing to grow in popularity.

Virgin cocktails
Going alcohol free will be easier than ever with the multitude of non-alcoholic mocktails next year. Plus, their artisanal ingredients will make sure you don’t feel like you’re missing out.
