Fresh out of the oven.
When I hear the word ‘salad’, turning the oven on is not usually the first thing that springs to mind – my go-to salad is typically made up of raw ingredients. However, after testing out the latest TikTok ‘baked salad’ trend that popped up on my For You page, I might just be heating up my leafy greens more often.
‘Baked’ and ‘salad’ aren’t two words that home cooks would often find themselves putting together, but on the internet’s favourite app, this dish is bringing in millions of views.

What makes this salad different from, say, a typical chickpea salad is that pretty much every ingredient is baked. From greens and other vegies to grains and even the dressing – everything gets heated up.
While the concept of the baked salad is taking off on TikTok right now, baking vegies for salads has existed for decades – like in Matt Moran’s roast pumpkin with lentils, tahini and za’atar. You can also try one of our favourite warm salad recipes, roasted chickpea cauliflower salad, which is perfect on its own, or as a hearty side.
Will you be baking a chance on this hot new trend?
