Committed carb lovers will not be able to go pasta this must-have foodie fashion item.
Mark your calendars and pull out your colanders, pasta lovers: on 11 August the ultimate food lover’s fashion accessory is coming in hot. ‘The Pasta Bag’ is on its way and the pastabilities for cute outfits (and pasta puns) are endless.
Near-identical to a box of Barilla Penne, down to the nutritional information, instructions and logo, the unique statement piece is a limited-edition item – only 100 bags will be available – and it’s bound to sell out fasta than it takes to boil your pasta.
In the depths of the pandemic, while cooking his 100th bowl of pasta, artist and designer Nikolas Bentel had an idea. To help deal with the collective melancholy he and many others stuck at home were (are) feeling, he imagined turning an everyday object into something more exciting (and wearable!).

It may not be the first time that Bentel has delved into the world of fashion (see his recent children’s garment collection for COS), nor the first time he’s created something that could be described as loopy (see his Loopy Chair), but his new accessory is certainly a novel creation. And, just like your plate of pasta: once it’s gone, it’s gone. The creative insists he will not be making more.
Despite its appearance, Bentel explains that the UV-printed blue leather handbag with its gold-coloured-chain strap is in not in any way affiliated with the pasta brand Barilla.
The bag will cost US$199 pretty pennes, and those quick enough to purchase it can expect to wait four to six weeks for production. The bag will go live for purchase from New York at 10.00am EST on 11 August (so adjust your time zone accordingly, pasta fanatics).
