There’s a new pop-up in Sydney – there’s always a new pop-up in Sydney – with a curious point of difference.
The O&G Breakfast Bar is hoping to deliver something a little more abstract to customers this weekend: happiness.
Developed with Dr Tim Sharp, Chief Happiness Officer at the Happiness Institute and a world-leader in the field of positive psychology, the pop-up team is on what he described as “a single-minded mission to spread happiness and smiles.”
The pop-up launched at Martin Place yesterday, headed to Wynyard Park this morning, and will make stops at Cronulla Mall tomorrow, the Manly Ferry Wharf on Sunday and Monday, and Centenary Square in Parramatta on Tuesday.
“Breakfast is very important for establishing and maintaining happiness throughout the day,” Dr Sharp said. “In addition to the nutritional importance of a healthy breakfast, starting your day with some positivity is likely to set you up for more happiness, productivity and success.”

Dr Sharp – who also goes by the moniker Dr Happy – is the author The Happiness Handbook, 100 Ways to Happiness: A Guide for Busy People and 100 Ways To Happy Children: A Guide For Busy Parents. He said that taking time to really savour our meals without distractions and without negative influences can create “positive spirals of energy” that result in “inspiration that can fuel a better and more productive day.”
“The brief to the O&G taste team was to provide a huge variety of taste and texture combinations for guests to explore and experiment with,” he said. “We really want to empower people to get creative, be purposeful, and get out of the same old breakfast rut.”

The pop-up’s offerings, which are completely free, include the “Coco Berry” (oats, milk, chia seeds, raspberries and coconut), the “Coco-Mango Crunch” (oats, milk, mango and coconut) and the “Berry Passionate” (granola, yoghurt, passionfruit and raspberries). In addition to the food, mini-meditation sessions, free flowers, cuddles with puppies and free hugs will also be available.
“We wanted to provide an environment that encourages creativity and inspiration,” Dr Sharp said, “and the best way to achieve this is by putting everyone in a good mood.”
He also noted the importance of taking that good mood and “paying it forward”
“The aim is for people who come along to take those good vibes with them and spread them around far and wide to start the positivity contagion,” he said.
Here are Dr Happy’s tips for starting your day on a positive note:

- Enjoy a healthy and delicious breakfast without the distraction of social media or email
- Do some exercise as soon as possible
