The retro Easter treat ditches its traditional filling with the launch of the Oreo Creme Egg.
Love them or loathe them, the Cadbury Creme Egg is one of the most iconic Easter egg offerings. First landing in the 1960s, the humble Creme Egg has come to grace many a supermarket shelf the world over. But the retro chocolate is now moving with the times and is set to see a makeover with the release of the Oreo Creme Egg.
Recently landing in Australia, the new egg features the same cadbury milk chocolate shell but (as its name suggests) instead of the traditional white and yellow fondant filling signature, the new egg hosts an Oreo-heavy cream and biscuit filling. The packaging has also been revamped, with the Oreo Creme Egg version housed in a protective blue plastic cup.
In a statement Cadbury explains that the new “Cadbury Oreo Easter eggs are ideal for Cadbury Oreo chocolate lovers who can now treat themselves in the lead-up to Easter.” But never fear – the original Creme Eggs will remain available for diehards. As Cadbury explains, they remain two entirely different products. “While they share a similar eating occasion, that’s where the similarities end. Cadbury Creme Eggs and Cadbury Oreo Easter eggs are two very different tasting eggs,” they said.
The decision to introduce the Oreo Creme Egg to the Australian market wasn’t a hard one says Chocolate Marketing Director Kjetil Undhjem, telling news.com.au “off the back of the huge success of the launch of the Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo blocks range in Australia last year, we knew that Australians would love the taste of the new Cadbury Oreo Easter egg. And not only does it taste great, the unique packaging also delivers a new and joyful way to enjoy your afternoon chocolate treat in the lead-up to Easter — simply Peel, Pop and Eat!”
