Get ready for entertaining season with this free online masterclass series hosted by some of the country’s best chefs.
The new Digital Chef Masterclasses by Carriageworks will explore the five elements of taste – sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami – through recipes, conversation and culinary tips and tricks.
Each episode will be hosted by a different chef, with classes by Peter Gilmore (Quay), Nadine Ingram (Flour and Stone), Palisa Anderson (Chat Thai), Evan Stroeve (RE Bar) and Luke Powell (LP’s Quality Meats and Bella Brutta).

Carriageworks CEO Blair French said: “In collaboration with our longtime partner Smeg Australia, Carriageworks is pleased to be able to continue delivering quality programming for our discerning food audience despite current restrictions. This series of digital masterclasses with some of the best chefs in Australia is also an opportunity for us to share the premium programming of the much loved Carriageworks Farmers Market with audiences across Sydney and beyond.”
The Digital Chef Masterclasses series will run from October 7 – February 2, and kick off with Peter Gilmore, who will explore the elusive fifth flavour, umami.
Presented in conversation with Lizzie Hewson, author of Saturday Night Pasta, Gilmore shares his secret to creating a simple umami-enriched chicken broth, purple corn polenta, and a bone marrow pasta with shiitake and kombu butter.
