Dog treats aren't what they used to be.
The days of rewarding your pooch with a Schmacko are done. Today dogs are a pampered bunch of pets, with palates as sophisticated as their owners.
Need further proof?
Let us introduce to you the pupcake – a dog-friendly sweet treat to rival the cupcake beloved by many. Whipped up by Sydney sweet treat experts Sparkle Cupcakery, pupcakes will be handed out in their hundreds as a part of a special celebration held by design favourite West Elm in September as part of the West Elm Pup Party.
On September 2, from 11 am to 2 pm, dogs will be welcomed in stores across the country (accompanied by their owners naturally). Each store will be somewhat of a foodie frenzy for your four-legged friends, with a number of local artisans selling doggie treats from human-grade ingredients.
The first 50 pooches in each store will receive a treat from Barking Obito, with a handful of other puppy treat creators from around the country also in attendance at specific stores, showcasing just how far the humble dog snack has come. Chatswood will have FurFresh, while Perth will be attended to by Harley and Co, and Go Fetch Bakery. Chapel Street will see Golden Barkery doling out homemade and handcrafted dog treats. And, of course, Sydney’s Sparkle will provide the pupcakes at the chic Bondi Junction store.
A range of doggie-related goods and homewares, prizes, and a photo booth for dog and owner will round out the day’s festivities.
Of course, it’s not only a chance to dine with your dog but to contribute to a good cause, with selected stores hosting a charity partner. Chapel Street has partnered with Beagle Rescue Victoria, Chadstone with Pug Rescue, and Brisbane with Animal Welfare League.
