You'd better get cracking!
Sure, a regular 1kg Easter egg is impressive. But a 1kg Easter egg filled with creamy gelato and coated with a hand-painted shell? That’s simply outstanding work.
Gelato Messina has knocked all our socks off again with its 2026 Easter creation. This year, the very sleek-looking egg comes with a dark chocolate shell, which cracks open to reveal layers of chocolate cheesecake gelato with baked cheesecake chunks, chocolate cream cheese with chocolate crumb mousse, salted caramel chocolate cookie mousse and, as a grand sweet finale, a salted caramel centre.
“Designed to share” (ha! Yeah, right) between six people, the enormous egg has got us counting down the days already.

The whopping egg is the evolution of Messina’s 2023 Neapolitan-inspired Ménage Egg Trois gelato trio, which included three smaller (but equally delicious) gelato-filled eggs. In 2024, the gelato masters thought bigger – much bigger – bringing the single one-kilo creation into our lives (and for that we are truly thankful). The fillings in that year’s creation featured milo mousse, Oreo crumble, hazelnut praline, malted vanilla chantilly, Milo gelato with Oreo cookie chunks and a hazelnut caramel centre.

Last year, the hotly anticipated Easter release was inspired by one of the brand’s most iconic creations – Mr. Messina – fior di latte gelato smashed with baked cheesecake with a pretzel crust and pretzel fudge. Inside the hand-painted milk chocolate shell, there were layers of cheesecake mousse, pretzel crumb and clusters coated in milk chocolate, pretzel chocolate dip, Basque cheesecake gelato with baked cheesecake chunks and a gooey pretzel-caramel centre. It sold out in an hour, so this year, the Messina team has upped the numbers, and given Messina app customers early access.

The 2026 Gelato Easter Egg goes on sale for pre-order on Tuesday, March 10 at 11:50am for Gelato Messina app customers and at 12pm AEST for non-app customers.
