“Just like a chocolate milkshake, only crunchy” –if you grew up in the nineties, that was a jingle that bought joy to your heart. Watch any after-school program, and you were guaranteed to see Coco the Monkey and his penchant for chocolatey cereal.

Kellogg’s Coco Pops rival Milo in nostalgic breakfast-food-that’s-now-bad-for-you stakes, but we’re still pretty excited that the brand is collaborating with Gelato Messina.

The ‘Just Like a Milkshake’ flavour blends chocolate cereal milk gelato with clusters of the cereal, and will be available tomorrow at all 12 stores (including Las Vegas) for one week.

There are no monkeys involved, sadly, but Gelato Messina’s Declan Lee says that the flavour aims to tap into childhood memories of the cereal.

“We all have such a deeply nostalgic love of Coco Pops, and of course all the slogans. Playing around with the base flavour of Coco Pops cereal milk gelato and adding the clusters has resulted in something very tasty. We’re happy with the result, but as always, the ultimate test is always once it’s in store,” he says.
