Here’s your chance to enjoy the best of the region’s wine and food by Balmoral’s golden sands, writes Jason Scullin.
As if the lure of Sydney’s idyllic Balmoral Beach wasn’t enough, on Sunday. October 7, Hunter Valley Uncorked will see the very best of Australia’s oldest wine region descend en masse to bring a taste of the good life to the harbourside suburb.

Taking over the Balmoral esplanade for the day will be more than 20 of the Hunter’s top winemakers, plus many of its finest producers of epicurean delights.
Presented by Wine Selectors, this year’s Hunter Valley Uncorked is the perfect way to indulge in all that’s best from this iconic region famed for its award-winning vintages and outstanding produce.
Among wine makers showing off new-release wines are Allandale, Brokenwood, Margan Family Wines, Oakvale, Pepper Tree, Saddler’s Creek, Tamburlaine, Tulloch and Vinden Estate.
And non-wine drinkers won’t miss out this year, with Hunter Distillery setting up shop for the first time, to offer their range of top-shelf spirits, including their award-winning Copperwave Distilled Gin.
Helping fill bellies on the day will be several restaurants and producers, including The Deck Café Lovedale, RidgeView Restaurant, Oaks Cypress Lakes Bar & Bistro, Bar Coco Coffee & Gelato, Hunter Valley Cheese Factory, The Red Apron Gourmet Kitchen and Two Fat Blokes Euro Deli.

Barbecue fans can get their grill on at one of six Alfresco Tastes wine and barbecue sessions, where tasting glasses of Hunter Valley wines will be paired with a gourmet barbecue dish. Sessions, costing $10, can be booked on the day from the Wine Selectors stall.
Hunter Valley Uncorked runs from 11am to 5pm. Entry is free, with wine-tasting packages from $26 to $31 per person. A free event shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes from Mosman and Spit Junction to Balmoral Beach. Visit www.winecountry.com.au for more information or to pre-purchase tasting tickets.
