It seems that the public is passionate about all burgers, even of the cartoon variety. Today Google stirred up quite a controversy online after revealing its cheeseburger emoji design.

The tech giant produced a cartoon that prompted intense online debate thanks to the positioning of the cheese underneath the meat, rather than on top as is traditional. Complaints shortly flooded the site with the Google CEO Sundar Pichai immediately taking to Twitter to promise action against the food emoji travesty.

A tweet by a Thomas Baekdal launched the debate, who wrote: “I think we need to have a discussion about how Google’s burger emoji is placing the cheese underneath the burger, while Apple puts it on top.” A swarm of complaints about Google’s decision soon flooded the internet, prompting Sundar to respond to the original tweet, confirming that action would be taken on Monday morning.

According to Time magazine, Google is currently the only company in its emoji to place cheese underneath. Its competitors – Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, LG, Whatsapp and Facebook included – place the cheese on top.
