A meal fit for a king.
Chefs across Europe are vying for the chance to seriously pad out their resumes, as the King of England himself is looking to hire a new kitchen team. Positions of pastry sous chef, junior sous chef and chef de partie are all up for grabs.
The successful applicants will have a demanding criteria and must be fond of travel. While they’ll largely be positioned at Buckingham Palace, they must be willing to cook at other royal residences, such as Balmoral and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland.
According to the advertisement on the royal website, all three positions require staff to “assist in preparing meals across all areas of the kitchen for internal colleagues, Royal meals and special functions to the highest standards.”

They must also “support Senior chefs in creating seasonal menus utilising products from the local estates” and “travel to other locations as required, ensuring consistent standards are upheld at each residence.” There is also a strong emphasis on creating vegan dishes from organic produce.
This travel could be anything from a long weekend at a royal residence to four-week tours with the royal family.
Working with the royal family has quite a few perks, including the option to live onsite (with a salary adjustment, of course), pension plan contributions, staff meals supplied and a “competitive” salary.

And just what is the salary for working in one of the most demanding and historic houses in the world? That would be the grand old total of £37,000, or $71,000 AUD.
We assume that the House of Windsor has short arms to match those deep pockets?
In any case, the opportunity to cook for royal functions is great exposure.
King Charles is said to be quite particular about his food, and starts his day with fruit, nuts, seeds, boiled eggs and a cup of tea. He doesn’t eat lunch or drink water between meals, and has a dinner at 5pm of sandwiches and cake.
