Lady Gaga joins the celebrity cookbook craze

The pop star has written the foreword to her father's Italian-American cookbook.

Lady Gaga has become the latest celebrity to get in on the cookbook game.

We won’t bore you with a list of B-listers and has-beens who have already jumped on this particular bandwagon. (We did so when Freddie Prinze, Jr. unexpectedly released Back to the Kitchen a while back.) What we will do is wonder aloud what sort of recipes we should expect from someone who once wore a dressed made of raw flank steak to an MTV awards show. Steak tartare? Beef sashimi? Prairie oysters?

Alas, Lady Gaga’s not actually the one coming up with the recipes for this particular volume. That would be her father, Joe Germanotta, who will soon release a cookbook featuring recipes from Joanne Trattoria, his Italian restaurant on New York City’s Upper West Side.

While Lady Gaga – whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – has merely penned the foreword to the book, that certainly hasn’t stopped her name from being featured prominently on the cover.

That sales ploy has worked a treat, at least as far as pre-sales are concerned. Even though Joanne Trattoria Cookbook: Classic Recipes and Scenes from an Italian American Restaurant won’t hit shelves until November 22, it’s available for pre-order on Amazon now and is already the best-selling new release in the Italian cooking category.

“Family, food, and love are the foundation upon which Joe Germanotta and his wife, Cynthia, raised their daughters, Natali and Stefani (a.k.a. Lady Gaga),” the book’s Amazon description reads. “Named for his sister who died of Lupus three months shy of her 20th birthday, their family-run restaurant is built on those same fundamental principles. In the pages of this cookbook, Joe has collected recipes and entertaining anecdotes inspired by his world-famous restaurant.”

Hopefully her involvement with her father’s book will inspire Lady Gaga to release her own. What to Cook with Your Old Meat Dress and Other Avant-Garde Recipes has a certain ring to it. How about The Flame Monster: A Gaga Guide to Grilling? No, no, wait! We’ve got it! I Live for the Hors d’oeuvres!
