Woolies shoppers are rushing to get their hands on a “unique” new coconut water flavour, with the limited-edition drop already flying off shelves nationwide. Words by Naomi Kaplan.

Flavoured coconut water has dominated supermarket shelves this summer, with one cult brand leading the way with a “unique” new variety.

Raw C has just dropped a limited-edition Easter range that’s already flying off the shelves at a record rate.

Exclusive to Woolworths, the new drink – which retails for $5.50 – launched on Wednesday.

A Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au that the retailer is “excited” to be the “exclusive home” for the new beverage range.

“We know that our customers have been loving flavoured coconut water and we’re thrilled to offer them another refreshing alternative to indulge their sweet tooth this Easter,” the spokesperson said.

Raw C founder Scott Mendelsohn said the drink is designed to “capture that nostalgic, ‘melt-in-your-mouth’ magic of a golden caramel egg and bottle it”.

“This isn’t just a drink, it’s a liquid dessert,” Mr Mendelsohn told news.com.au.

“We’ve dialled up those rich, toasted caramel notes and paired them with our silky coconut water to create a velvety profile that hits every sweet spot.”

The product has been going coconuts online. Popular food content creator, Nectorious Papi’s review racked up more than 200,000 views, describing the beverage as “a gooey caramel-flavoured coconut water”.

“I really, really like it. I’m pleasantly surprised,” he said.

“Is it as good as, say, the chocolate (flavour)? That depends whether you prefer chocolate or caramel, really. I think the chocolate is stronger than this.”

The comments under his video were filled with users debating the unique flavour.

“So here for all the flavoured coconut waters coming out,” one person wrote.

“How eggciting (sic),” another said.

Many eager coconut water fans said they were going to keep their eyes peeled for the new beverage when it dropped in their local stores.

“I’m going to be on the look out for this one for sure,” one wrote.

In a video reviewing the product, Lily Buchanan acknowledged to her followers that “obviously, this would be better if it came from the fridge”.

“But I’m really impatient, so I’m going to try it right now,” Ms Buchanan said.

“(The drink is) really good. You could even have this with coffee, it would be insane.”

It’s not the first time Raw C has come up with distinct flavours, with the white chocolate and pistachio range causing a buying frenzy last year, in addition to its beloved fruit versions.

It looks like the coconut water craze is here to stay, with Coles and Woolworths reporting a “strong double-digit growth” in sales in recent years.

Raw C founder Mr Mendelsohn said the inspiration for the creative flavours come from observing how consumers use the products in their day-to-day lives.

“The idea to change up the traditional coconut water came from seeing how customers used it in recipes,” he said.

“I’d see them on social media mixing it into smoothies, adding it to protein shakes, using it in their meals.

“Everyone loves chocolate, and when you combine it with coconut water’s natural creaminess, it’s like a healthy dessert you can drink without the guilt.

“We knew it tasted incredible, but seeing people go absolutely wild for it on socials has been insane.”
