How mex-cellent!
Mad Mex has officially launched a new plant-based product range – taco-bout growth!
They’ve teamed up with AFL legend and notorious carnivore Brendan ‘Fev’ Fevola to trial these new ‘flexitarian’ options and launch its new Powered by Plants menu items.
Mad Mex joins a wave of fast food joints as they experiment with alternative meat-free proteins. Fev, like many other Australians, are on the hunt for healthy, yet tasty alternatives to meat.

“I love meat. I must admit I was sceptical of the taste and flavour of plant-based food. I’ve tried them before and it hasn’t tasted nice. This tastes exactly like meat, I can’t tell the difference. That’s the biggest surprise to me.” says Fev after his own taste test.

The Mexicali Mince is made from soy, is high in protein, and is seasoned with classic Mexican flavours.
As a Mexican-food frequent, I had to join Fev and give it a try.
@deliciousaus Check out that ASMR 🌮 cronch! If someone had given me this and said it was a regular beef mince taco, I would’ve believed them! Available now at any Mad Mex 🌯 #tastetest #mexican #tacotuesday 🤳🏾@markusmuch @madmexau ♬ Mexican Hat Dance – (Jarbe Tapatio) – Mariachi – dnoproductions
The verdict? I’m soy surprised! If someone had handed me this and said it was just a regular beef mince taco, I would’ve believed them.
Very yum, great texture, a solid 8/10!
BRB, going back for seconds.
Want to try it for free? To celebrate the new range, Mad Mex is offering customers a free Mexicali Mince Taco when they purchase any main meal until Sunday, 21st August, nationwide. You just need to say “Mission Mexicali” at outlets to receive the complimentary taco and taste the Powered by Plants range.
