The Jason Bourne star was asked a surprising number of food questions during a recent Reddit AMA.
You’ve got to hand it to Reddit users. Ask them to ask anything and they will indeed ask anything.
We saw this a little while back with their grilling of Gordon Ramsay during the celebrity chef’s AMA, or “Ask Me Anything,” event.
But at least when they asked Ramsay about food and cooking it was relevant to his area of expertise. Asking Matt Damon – an Oscar-winning actor and screenwriter – about the perfect taco? It seems a little random, doesn’t it?
Well, it might have had it not taken place online, where random and arbitrary are the viral order of the day. The greatest communications technology in the history of the world and we’ve clogged the thing with blue movies and cat memes.

For his part, Damon took to the question like The Martian’s Mark Watney to growing potatoes on Mars with his own excrement.
“Fantastic question,” he enthused, while doubtless thinking to himself, safely ensconced behind his keyboard, ‘I’m a movie star, dammit. What the f— is this?’
Or maybe he wasn’t thinking that at all. He certainly got into the spirit with his response. The result? We now know exactly how Matt Damon likes his tacos. Because apparently that matters. (All grammatical errors that follow are his, by the way.)
“My ideal taco is actually the taco I’m not supposed to have which is the taco we have on taco night at my house,” Damon wrote. “It’s the crunchy corn shell with the good meat, just ground beef in there.”
“It’s all about the layering,” he said.“The meats gotta be hot, and the cheese goes on first so that it melts. And then you’re gonna get in there with a little bit of tomato and lettuce but not too much cause it’s not a salad, it’s a taco, and then you’re gonna throw some avocado on top and some sour cream and then a bunch of cholula. I don’t know if you know what cholula hot sauce is but it’s the best. Throw a bunch of cholula on there, maybe squeeze some lime on top, and go to town.”
“Now that’s how you answer a question about tacos,” one Reddit user enthused.
“Your comment on tacos not being salads has likely impacted me more than anything else in the past decade,” wrote another.
“Matt Damon’s AMA is the best in awhile [sic],” a third user concluded for the benefit of all. “[A] huge paragraph just on he likes his f—ing tacos. I love this guy.”
Damon also weighed in on the apparently controversial matter of whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich.
Obviously, it isn’t one, and we here at delicious. were surprised to learn that there was even a debate about it in the first place. Who are these hot dog truthers? What’s their beef (or mystery meat, as it were)?
Luckily, Damon agreed with us, coming down on the right side of history. (Once again, the grammatical errors are all his.)
“I’ve never considered a hot dog a sandwich because a hot dog is a hot dog,” he said. “I mean technically it comes between 2 pieces of bread or one fold it into two” – what the hell does that even mean, Matt Damon? You won an Oscar for writing, man! – “so I guess you can classify it as a sandwich.”
“Then what would you call it, a hot dog sandwich? That’s like a hat on a hat so let’s just keep it as a hot dog.”
Damned straight.
