Wait, what? McDonald's launches vegan nuggets

In case you needed further proof that veganism is going mainstream, this is it.

Fast food favourite McDonald’s has today revealed it will soon be adding vegan nuggets to its menu, beginning with outlets in Norway.

Made from potato, chickpeas, onion, corn and carrots, the new vegan snack has been fashioned with a similar crispy-style coating as the regular chicken counterparts.

While there’s no official word as to whether the new menu item will reach our shores, it’s not the first time the fast-food giant has trialled vegan menu items, launching the McVegan burger in both Finnish and Sweedish outlets back in 2017.

“We understand there is a rising demand for vegan and vegetarian options, and we are always open to suggestions from our customers,” an Australian spokesman for McDonald’s told news.com.au.

“We currently have a small number of items on our menu suitable for vegan customers and have a new vegetarian option in the works we will begin to trial this year.”

The demand for vegan menu items saw the introduction of McFalafel and vegan Happy Meal options in Sweeden earlier this year.
