Prepare yourself for a brain freeze - the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival is happening.
With it being the height of summer it’s no surprise that ice cream is surging in popularity right now. But our admiration of the frozen treat may have reached new heights with the arrival of a food festival solely devoted to the dessert. The Brisbane Ice Cream Festival will make its debut on Saturday March 11, and will be fittingly hosted in the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory in West End.
Opened in the 1920s the Peters Ice Cream Factory closed for production in 1996, lying empty till the protected site’s purchase from developers. The space will host the frozen festival ahead of its planned $800 million conversion into the West Village lifestyle precinct.
A smorgasbord of pop-up stalls from a collection of Brisbane-based dessert makers is expected on the day, serving up ice-cream, gelato, popsicles, ice cream sandwiches and the like. Notable creators will be in attendance, with Gelato Messina, Queen of Pops, The Doughnut Bar, Boss Bites, Red Hook Brisbane, Frozen Sunshine Iceblocks and more already confirming their attendance. Keeping in mind the qualms of the dietary sensitive, the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival has also proven that is it not just for the dairy-devotee, having ensured that a selection of dairy-free and vegan options will be on offer on the day.
