Your daily takeaway coffee could be changing.
Your takeaway coffee could soon be getting an eco-friendly makeover thanks to the very clever people behind a new plastic-free cup we’ve seen pop up in an Aussie cafe.
Made by The Good Cup, the award-winning design is formed from a single sleek piece of compostable paper. Unlike traditional coffee cups that require a separate plastic lid, this version has removed the need for a lid altogether, and instead uses an innovative folding flap to create a drinking spout while locking your beverage in place. When closed, it functions like a regular lid; when opened, it folds back into the cup. Pretty neat, right?

While we’re yet to get our hands on one, social media influencer Adrian Widjy spotted one in the wild at Sydney cafe Algorithm in Marrickville.
And it’s not just for coffee, either. Looking at The Good Cup’s Instagram page, the paper cup has been thoughtfully designed to hold everything from soft drinks, fries, matchas or whatever your takeaway heart fancies.

It’s not the first time we’ve been excited over the prospect of an environmentally-friendly switch to your eating habits.
Late last year, we reported on an Aussie design studio who created the plastic-free alternative to the iconic soy sauce fish you get with takeaway sushi.
