Adriano Zumbo releases pavlova-flavoured Christmas cereal

Adriano Zumbo Pavlova Cereal

America has eggnog, Britain has shortbread and now Australia has Christmas cereal.

In what might easily be one of the most Aussie breakfasts ever, Adriano Zumbo has released his own pavlova-flavoured cereal, ready to grace our bowls come Christmas morning.

Among the ingredients are puffed rice, macadamias, passionfruit and freeze-dried raspberries, mango and strawberries – basically, everything you’d want on your regular pavlova.

“For me, pavlova definitely has that nostalgia connection. It brings back a lot of memories,” Zumbo says.

“The flavours in pavlova translate so well into a cereal – fresh fruit and crispy meringue. It’s pretty darn tasty.”

What’s more shocking though is the sugar content, or lack thereof, with a total of 8.5g per serving, or roughly the same amount of sugar per 100g (28.4g) as the popular Sultana Bran (28.2g). In comparison, kids’ favourite Coco Pops contains 11g for the same serving size, while Fruit Loops and Frosties contain 38g and 41.3g per 100g respectively.

Known for his outrageous creations, Zumbo first came into the spotlight with his wacky macarons, which fast became a dessert empire for the pastry chef, with stores now across Sydney and Melbourne.

Zumbo is not alone though. Famed New York patissier Dominique Ansel also released a Christmas morning cereal earlier this year, featuring Valrhona Caramelia (similar to dulce de leche) chocolate puffed rice, smoked cinnamon-flavoured meringue kisses and caramelised hazelnuts in a sugar brittle.

Personally, we’ll take our cereal pavlova-flavoured this year.
