Unless you’ve invited a table of Nobel prize winners around for dinner, the latest oven unveiled recently by German manufacturer Miele will be the smartest thing in your kitchen.

Called the ‘Dialog’ oven, Miele’s creation takes the combination of microwave, radiant and convection oven cooking to an entirely new level by adding two antennas to the top of the oven. These emit electromagnetic waves, but what’s revolutionary about the Dialog oven is that the waves can respond to the food’s texture and adjust as required to deliver the perfect results.

What that means in practice was revealed to delicious. along with Shannon Bennett at the launch in Berlin: fish encased in a block of ice perfectly cooked while the ice remains solid; veal tenderloin in beeswax cooked evenly throughout while the beeswax stays unmelted; a salmon fillet coming out of the oven both raw and cooked – deliberately. Miele brand ambassador; Shannon Bennett was involved in the development stages and is testing new recipes and ideas with this exciting appliance.

As Markus Miele, the company’s Managing Director, explains: “The Dialog Oven doesn’t communicate with you; it is having a dialogue with your food.”

The “dialogue” is helped along by the oven’s integrated cooking innovation – M Chef, which uses high-tech sensors to closely and automatically monitor the cooking process, maintaining a constant dialog with multiple ingredients as they cook so that they can be baked, roasted, warmed or thawed simultaneously. And come out of the oven perfectly cooked.

An accompanying app allows you to select the evening’s menu and send all recipe settings to the oven straight from the app. Once dinner is cooking, you can use the app to check the state of the Dialog oven, change settings and monitor the cooking process.

If this sounds like the kind of kitchen wizard you need in your life, you’ll have to put your anticipation on hold. The Dialog Oven will go on sale first in Germany and Austria in 2018 for €7990 (about A$12,000), then throughout the rest of Europe before it makes its way to Australia late 2019.
