Or fresh baked croissants and steaming espresso.
Last year, we told you about the alarm clock that wakes you up with the smell of coffee (and, you know, a pot of freshly brewed java, complete with hidden milk and sugar compartments).
Now, alarm clock creators have taken it one step further, with a teenage French entrepreneur, Guillaume Rolland, creating the SensorWake.
At its core, it’s a scent-based ‘olfactory’ alarm system that promises to wake you up sans noisy ringing noises. In the trial period, Rolland found that 99 percent of people woke up within two minutes of the scent being released, but the clock also has a back-up audio option.
His theory? Waking up to a scent is more enjoyable and less harsh than a traditional alarm, and the scent combinations on offer are associated with positive emotions.
The machine uses a capsule system, so you can customise your flavours. Rolland is using a Kickstarter campaign to bring his vision to life (and has already raised nearly four times the amount needed). He expects that each machine will retail for around $170. Google is even on board; at the 2014 Google Science Fair, the prototype was recognised as one of the top 15 inventions that could change the world.
Not bad for an 18 year old, at all.
