The surprisingly simple way you can help to end domestic violence today

So what are you waiting for?

Every week one Australian woman is murdered by a current or former partner – it’s a shocking statistic that reveals just how prevalent domestic violence is today. In an effort to bring attention to the issue, three major companies will be joining forces for an impressively simple new initiative in which everyday Australians can take part.

For the month of October, Two Good Co will be joining forces with American Express and Deliveroo in a massive effort to make a difference to the lives of women affected by domestic violence. For those not familiar with the charity, Two Good Co is built on the concept that for any of the brand’s lunches purchased, the company will donate a similar meal to a women’s safe house in Sydney or Melbourne.

The meals aren’t your average lunch either. Rather they are crafted by some of Australia’s favourite celebrity chefs, including Kylie Kwong, Matt Moran and Christine Manfield. Meals donated come in custom jars to make their recipients feel cherished. And as an added bonus, are prepared by women from the same safe houses they serve, providing them with pathways to employment.

So how exactly can you take part? Use your American Express to pay for any meal order on Deliveroo and a Two Good meal will be delivered to a woman in need. The trio have a goal of delivering 20,000 meals within the month-long stint.

“The work that Two Good does goes beyond just a meal,” says Vice President of consumer marketing at American Express Julie Nestor. “It expands to employment, provides a means of camaraderie, and reminds women that they are not alone. Through this partnership, we want to encourage Australians to make a difference, starting with a simple meal.”

Founder of Two Good Rob Caslick echoes Julie’s thoughts. “This collaboration is an exciting next step for Two Good. Not only will it help us triple the amount of meals we’re able to deliver to women in need each week, but it will also help us double the amount of staff we hire from shelters and refuges to create the meals. It’ll also help us further expand our kitchens in Melbourne to have a larger impact in the city,” he says.

To raise awareness of the initiative, American Express has commissioned a mosaic mural created by Sydney artist Noula Diamantopoulos. Inspired by the face of domestic violence survivor Felicity Cook, the mural comprises of 20,000 jar lids atop a message that reads ‘Love shouldn’t hurt.’ Each of which represent the volume of meals to be donated by American Express as a part of the campaign this month. It can be viewed at 182 George Street in the Sydney CBD. But for those a little further afield, you can get involved by purchasing a meal and using the hashtag #deliveringgood.
