Over the Christmas period anyway.
Let’s face it, while Christmas is a joyous occasion it also tends to be a stressful one with all the preparations that go into present giving and feast making. But the Sydney Fish Market is on hand to make sure that your seafood buying is a little easier at least, by unleashing its 36-hour Seafood Marathon this Christmas.
Taking place between December 23 and 24, the Seafood Marathon expects more than 100,000 people to attend in the 36-hour period. The marathon itself kicks off at 5.00am on December 23 and lasts until 5.00pm on December 24. For those who can’t make it those days, there will also be extended trading hours in place to ensure you can pick up those prawns in time for family festivities.
“The 36-Hour Seafood Marathon is a long-standing tradition and one of our favourite events on the calendar,” explains Sydney Fish Market general manager Bryan Skepper of the event. “Visitors can expect a vibrant and exciting atmosphere throughout the entire event. It is a great opportunity for everyone to load up on Christmas supplies and pick up some last minute gifts from Sydney Seafood School for the seafood enthusiasts in your life,” he continues.
There’s not just prawns on hand at the markets, but shoppers can expect one of the largest ranges of fresh seafood available. It’s been sourced from all over Australia, with 50 percent coming from around New South Wales. And for those who aren’t quite as passionate about prawns or fish as the rest of us, there will be turkey and fellow traditional Christmas meats available at the butcher, as well as a bottle shop, greengrocer and bakery on hand.
