Will it put a rose in every cheek?
There’s nothing else quite like it, and while the recipe has virtually remained the same (with a few changes here and there) since 1923, Vegemite has announced the release of a new premium flavour, called Blend 17.
The new offering is touted as being similar in consistency as British rival Marmite, with slightly more sweetness than the original Vegemite recipe, according to the Herald Sun. Returning to Australian owners Bega earlier this year, Blend 17 is an homage to inventor Cyril Callister’s various blends created in the early 20s which lead to Vegemite as we know it today.
Locally made in Port Melbourne, the new blend will retail for $6.99 for a 150g jar (roughly double the price of the original recipe), but be quick the Australian icon is only releasing 450,000 jars to the public.
