Plus what we're cooking, where we're going and what we're eating.

Hello delicious. readers, and welcome to your weekly wrap 2.0.

Millenials hate cereal

Firstly; the big news heating up the United States: cereal is dead and it’s millennials laziness that killed it. Um, what? Apparently, according to a New York Times article, young people aren’t eating cereal because it means they’ll have to wash up the bowl. Yeah. Cereal has never been quite so much of a thing in Australia, and we’re way more into this kind of breakfast to buy too much into the whole debate.

Is this Australia’s best winery?

Something that we are way into right now: Dan Stock’s review of Oakridge, the Yarra Valley no-waste winery restaurant headed up by Matt Stone, has us planning a long weekend to regional Victoria. Melburnians will know Matt from the now-closed Brothl restaurant, which made headlines for using up other restaurants’ unwanted bones and stocks. He’s back to his fine dining roots here, with a vegetable garden to pluck out produce. Get ready for some serious food envy when you read the review.

MKR contestants fired after bad review

It was a different review, however, that had tongues wagging this week. Specifically, a review of Perth’s West End Deli by former My Kitchen Rules contestants Chloe and Kelly. The Sunday Times review, titled “Hipster deli should stick to brekkie”, was written by Ramsay and quotes James as saying “Shall we head to the Leedy for dinner, take 2?” after they left the restaurant. They didn’t like the deli, and the deli alleged that not only did they not attend together, they also didn’t pay for six weeks. Ouch. Long story short: the duo has been fired.\\

Chefs fight to keep Sydney open

Debate over Sydney’s lock out laws (which are soon to hit Brisbane, as well) has calmed down since last weekend’s Keep Sydney Open protest, but we spoke to some of the city’s best chefs about how the laws are affecting business and industry.

They placed Margarita Day during #FebFast

National Margarita Day on Monday. Best invented day ever? We know it’s a made up holiday, but we’re not missing an excuse to crack the tequila, so here’s your weekend baking assignment before February ends: Valli Little’s Margarita tart.

Chilli eating competition gets heated

Speaking of tequila, SoCal in Neutral Bay is holding a chilli eating competition next week.  Can you handle the heat? There’s a bottle of Olmeca Altos tequila, a bar tab and bunch of other prizes up for grabs for the winner.

Sydney’s top rooftop bars are…

Finally – in sad news, this weekend is the last of the summer.  The delicious. team will be celebrating by checking out as many of these roof-top bars as we can.

What to do this weekend

delicious. magazine Managing Editor, Shannon Harley, plans to go water-side at Anason, the new contemporary Turkish restaurant at Barangaroo (owned by Somer Siviroglu, who also has the brilliant Efendy in Balmain).

I’m hitting up the Esk Beer Festival in Launceston, Tasmania. It’s a brand-new festival, kicking off today, and will showcase the state’s best brews. See also: why Tasmanian is going to become an even bigger tourist destination. If you’re in Hobart, the brand-spanking new Hobart Brewing Co opens it’s doors for a sneak peek tonight, ahead of the official opening next month. Expect food trucks and craft brews.

In Byron Bay this weekend, Balcony Bar and Oyster Co is taking its first customers. There’s a dedicated ice-filled bar of Australian varieties of the molluscs. Throw in some Yamba prawns and a bottle of chilled sparkling, and you have a pretty damn great game plan.
