And they’re donating a portion of every sale to OzHarvest.
It’s the secret ingredient to every nan’s banana bread – soft, spotty, overripe bananas – and now Woolworths has borrowed the recipe.
Today, the supermarket giant has revealed that it will use unsold bananas from the produce section in the bakery’s new banana bread.
The discarded bananas will make their way into two new products: a store-baked banana bread and a banana bread with Cadbury chocolate chips.
Woolworths Head of Bakery, Andy Thomas said: “With the launch of this banana bread, we’re not only diverting bananas from heading to landfill but also supporting Australians in need with 50c from every sale going to our food rescue charity partner, OzHarvest.”

It’s not the first time the supermarket giant has shown it’s serious about food waste. Last year, the grocer launched a limited-edition pale ale called “Loafer” made from surplus bakery bread.
“Reducing food waste and keeping surplus food away from landfill is a top priority for all of us at Woolworths,” Thomas said.
The Woolworths Banana Bread is available in all Woolworths stores with in-store bakeries for $4.
