The Big Apple has won big for its pizza too.
Every year, pizzaiolos around the world knead, stretch, flip and turn to prove they’ve got what it takes to be the best.
And every year a panel of pizza experts digs deep to find the best pies, chefs, and pizzerias across the globe to determine the winners of the 50 Top Pizza list, and the results for 2024 might surprise you.
Despite what its name may imply, Una Pizza Napoletana in Manhattan’s Lower East Side has claimed the top spot. After being runner-up last year, they’ve taken first place this time around. Even though it’s not in Italy, owner and pizza master Anthony Mangieri keeps it simple with only top-notch ingredients and traditional toppings.
While the U.S. snagged first place – and scored 10 spots in the top 50 – Italy unsurprisingly dominated the list. Two Italian pizzerias – Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples and I Masanielli – Francesco Martucci in Caserta – tied for second. Italy took out a total of 21 entries in the top 50.
Excitingly, two Australian pizza parlours have made it into the Top 50 for another year. 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar in Melbourne and Al Taglio in Sydney left judges unable to pick a winner, with both tying for position #44.
