After a long slog in the office, there’s nothing like indulging in a spot of TV. And for the foodies out there, 2017 looks set to become a year of edible experiences on the small screen. Here are our picks for what food adventures are available for your viewing pleasure this year.
A culinary journey around the sunburnt country is the concept behind the Food Network’s first locally commissioned production. Best mates, foodies, and Masterchef stars Andy Allen and Ben Milbourne join forces in this special as they travel and taste their way through Australia’s unique produce and menus. Debuting February 15, 9pm on Food Network, SBS.
Matty Matheson is the larger-than-life character who hosts Dead Set on Life. The Canadian chef’s show charts his culinary adventures around the globe, which involve him sampling local cuisine and local culture in equal measure. His most recent adventures in Darwin are expected to make an appearance this season, with the show to make its debut January 23, SBS Viceland.
A Netflix original series, Chef’s Table was a stand-out documentary series that was created by filmmaker David Gelb of Jiro Dreams of Sushi fame. Profiling the most renowned chefs around the globe (such as Magnus Nilsson and Massimo Bottura), the show explores the culinary passions of the industry’s experts and has just been renewed for another three seasons.
Manu Fieldel, Pete Evans and Colin Fassnidge are back for the eighth season of My Kitchen Rules, debuting January 30 on Channel 7. This year Karen Martini, Guy Grossi and Liz Egan will also be apart of the judging panel to deem who has best turned their home into an instant restaurant, and will take home the $250,000 prize.
For those intrigued by the science surrounding food there is a three-part series headed your way in Food Detectives. The show sees a trio of food experts – chef Tom Kerridge, Professor Alice Roberts, and journalist Sean Fletcher – explore the myths behind the kitchen, from nutrition labels to the latest in scientific discovery.
Having completed its eighth season in 2016, Masterchef Australia doesn’t look like it’s falling out of favour anytime soon.
