The forgotten tradition of spearing wood beer kegs using a hammer and spike is coming to The Oaks every Friday this summer for “Beer Off the Wood”, and warning, it might get messy. Each week one wooden barrel will travel 900kms from the XXXX brewery in Queensland to The Oaks craft beer mecca in Neutral Bay. One lucky punter will have the opportunity to break the seal with a stone hammer and spike that can cause a theatrical shoot of beer skywards, releasing pressure and allowing the beer to flow out the tap. From 5pm each Friday, The Oaks will offer schooners straight out of the barrel of XXXX Bitter for just $6.50. And when it’s gone there will be no more until the following Friday.
