Doughnut Time is renowned for believing the impossible is possible when it comes to its outrageous sugary creations. With Chinese New Year as its inspiration, the treat chain has landed ‘The Talk of Chinatown’. The glazed doughnut is covered in a rich red cream, hand dipped in white gold chocolate pieces and topped with a lucky golden chocolate coin and a handmade fortune cookie (inside which is a custom Doughnut Time message).The Talk of Chinatown will be available from January 27 to February 3.

Dumpling specialist has crafted up something special for 2017’s lunar new year celebrations. In ode to the Year of the Rooster, the restaurant chain will be offering guests a taste of its limited-edition Rooster Buns on offer at all of its locations. The chicken-shaped sweet bao come steamed to order, and filled with a blueberry cream cheese mixture. They will be available to enjoy from January 20 to February 20.

Chinese New Year celebrations at Kensington Street Social and The Clare Bar at Old Clare Hotel have embraced a more adults-only approach in their food celebrations. Specifically the bar team has produced The Rooster as a part of festivities – a concoction of Tanqueray gin, lychee liquor, kings ginger, and fresh lemon juice. The drink will be available as a part of the Kensington Street Chinese New Year block party on February 4, from 3-8pm.

Perhaps not Chinese in concept but certainly asian-inspired in flavour are the limited-edition Gelato Cookie Sandwiches from dessert gods Gelato Messina. From January 27 to February 12, the Build Your Own Gelato Sandwich Bar at Sydney’s Westpac Lunar Lantern Hub will offer visitors a chance to celebrate Chinese New Year with ice cream sandwiches. The Chinese-inspired gelato flavours available will include coconut sorbet, salted Palm sugar, and Thai milk tea among others.
