Surry Hills and Barangaroo café favourite, Devon, jumps over the bridge opening its third cafe in North Sydney. For the first time, Executive Chef Zachary Tan is adding a dinner menu alongside favourite quirky brunch dishes and house-blend coffee. Open from 7am, Devon North Sydney is located on street level of Greenwood Plaza opposite the train station. By day, it’s a go-to for coffee and Devon brunch favourites such as the Croissant St Denis; ghetto style omelette, lobster meat, bisque beurre blanc, caviar and fine herbs enveloped in a fresh croissant. There’s also a takeaway ‘sando’ menu. Think panko prawns, tom yum mayo, cabbage and thai herbs on fluffy, white bread; or crumbed field mushrooms, rocket, feta and melted cheese on toasted bread. By night, Devon North Sydney goes in a slightly different direction. Fresh egg pappardelle is dressed with lobster, cherry tomatoes, garlic, chilli and olive oil. A roasted whole chook is marinated in fragrant Balinese spices and made to share. As are the 12-hour beef short ribs braised in sweet soy glaze, bumbu, crispy eschallots, coconut mignonette and fresh herbs. On the sweeter side, expect to be surprised with creative flavour combinations such as Devon’s popular soft serve with hot chips or the Japanese shaved ice dessert kakigori.
