Fiji isn’t just the home of a stunning natural landscape, but now also a beer brand with the launch of Vonu Beer. The socially conscious, ultra-low carb and low-gluten beer is brewed in the Fijian Islands. “Vonu’s life is grounded within the water and the brand is a proud supporter of the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES), which protects the turtles, our waterways and local Fijian communities, we’re offering socially conscious beer drinkers the opportunity to live free, and enjoy a really great-tasting authentic new brand with a great story to tell, and fewer carbs,” explains brand manager Blake Kramer of Vonu’s intentions.
Melbourne Spanish favourite Bar Lourinhã will travel across the Mediterranean to embrace all things Hellenic on March 6, with a vibrant Greek taverna party alongside their friend Captain Moonlite. For $95 per person, a feast will be had that ranges from Prawn cracker & bbq spice, to Twice-cooked ‘Samos’ octopus. “We’ve developed a menu inspired by our travels with flavours that are close to our hearts,” says Bar Lourinhã’s Matt McConnell. “We’ve had a lot of requests from guests to revive our long table diners, which we started 10 years ago. MOLO Bar in Woolloomooloo is currently producing the next years’ worth of the traditional Italian sauce that they use in-house. It’s an authentic recipe followed – a fusion of Riccardo Bernabei’s (owner & operator) Grandmother’s recipes. The 300-400 bottles of sauces made are made out on the wharf itself, with a temporary kitchen of sorts set up by the water.
Dan Murphy’s has turned its attention to the future of drinking with its latest invention. The booze experts will be launching the House of Discovery – a pop-up drinks experience in Sydney that explores the latest in drinking trends. Held in an abandoned heritage house in Chippendale, each room of the location will be decked out and styled with an Insta-worthy array of installations and drinks that reflect current drinking trends. Think along the lines of an agave garden path that teaches the real way to enjoy tequila, as well as two at-home bars – one Tiki Bar and one 1950’s Martini take – where you will learn how to concoct two signature cocktails. Food is provided by neighbouring Spice Alley and the entertainment via DJ Flex Mami, with tickets to the event can be bought online.
Experience New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay with a gastronomy tour like no other that comes courtesy of The Farm at Cape Kidnappers. The inaugural Tour de Chef weekend lands May 25-27, an event that brings together Michelin star chef Josh Emett (of Rata, Madam Woo and Claridges fame), Hawke’s Bay foodie and cheese expert extraordinaire Juliet Harbutt and Craggy Range Wines. With Emett and Harbutt as guides, guests will spend a day cycling through Hawke’s Bay, experiences local produce, and meeting local producers all the while. The Saturday evening meal will be the special highlight of the event, where Emett will create a five-course tastming menu, matched to wines that come courtesy of Craggy Range Wines, presented by Director of family-owned winery Mary Jeanne Peabody Hutchinson.
