The domestic goddess reveals her must-visit foodie spots for everything from cafe-style corn fritters to indulgent white truffles.
Best meal in London?
It’s impossible to be so categorical, but if I had to choose, I’d say the best meal I’ve had recently was at Angela Hartnett’s Murano.
Best for satisfying sweet cravings?
Nothing quite hits the spot like a really good bar of chocolate.
Recent foodie discovery?
Vincotto. An intense wine reduction that has something of a fuller-bodied balsamic vinegar flavour about it.
Local you couldn’t live without?
Jane Asher Party Cakes & Sugarcraft. This Chelsea shop is about three minutes away from me so I never have to worry about running out of baking or cake decorating ingredients.
Best restaurant when you want to splurge?
Locanda Locatelli in Marylebone – particularly during white truffle season.
Favourite restaurant with a view?
I love sitting outside at The River Cafe in summer, gazing out at the Thames. It’s more an urban scene than pastoral idyll, but I am a Londoner and that’s what I like.
Favourite Sunday brunch spot?
St Ali on Clerkenwell Road. The highlight for me is the corn fritters.
Favourite Australian restaurant?
Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, Sydney. The steak, the wine, the view of Bondi Beach – I dream of it from London.
When I don’t feel like cooking…
My treat is eating takeaway sushi in bed.
Chef to watch?
Oscar Humphreys. He’s just started out and is currently a sous chef at Soho’s Bocca di Lupo, but I feel he’s going to do something great, possibly on television rather than in a restaurant, as his charm matches his culinary talent.
Best for coffee?
La Fromagerie in Marylebone. It has fantastic coffee and food, an exquisitely curated food shop and cheese specialist, too.
Restaurant that serves your favourite comfort food?
Scott’s in Mayfair. No restaurant can do comfort food like a home kitchen can, but the grilled Dover sole and creamed spinach at Scott’s feels very spoiling, in a good way!
