Chocolate French toast
There's only one way to make French toast even better... add chocolate! This decadent breakfast recipe is golden on the outside and deliciously gooey in the centre. We've used dark chocolate for its rich flavour but you can also substitute for milk or white, depending on your preference.
Ingredients (7)
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup (125ml) thickened cream
- ⅓ cup (80ml) milk
- 35g salted butter
- 400g brioche, cut into 8 slice
- 80g dark (40%) chocolate, finely chopped
- Icing sugar, to dust
Don't forget you can add these ingredients to your Woolworths shopping list.

1.For the sauce, whisk sugar, cocoa and salt in a medium saucepan until there are no more lumps. Add the milk and stir over medium-high and mixture boils. Simmer for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla until combined. Strain into a jug. Set aside to cool and thicken slightly.

2.Whisk eggs, cream and milk in a large bowl. Heat a large non-stick frypan over medium high heat. Add butter and swirl until foaming. Dip 4 slices of brioche into egg mixture until completely coated, allowing excess to drip off, then place in hot pan. Top each slice with chocolate. Dip remaining 4 slices of brioche into egg mixture, drain off excess and place over chocolate. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until base is golden and crispy. Carefully flip toast and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

3.Cut each toast in half and serve immediately sprinkled with a little icing sugar.
