"I’ve always been a fan of the iced fruit drink. So much so that it still reminds me of my childhood. But sometimes you want just a little more than fruit, sugar and water, and that’s where this drink comes in. The amount of sugar I’ve given is a guide: let your taste determine how much to use because strawberries vary a lot in sweetness depending on season, location and variety. The vodka, however, is probably a bit more consistent." Matthew Evans.

Ingredients (7)

  • 250 g (9 oz) fresh strawberries, stems removed
  • 2–3 tablespoons sugar
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • 50 ml (1¾ fl oz) Grand Marnier (orange-flavoured cognac liqueur)
  • 25 ml (1 fl oz) vodka
  • 2 small basil leaves, washed
  • 350 g (12 oz) ice, crushed

Method

  • 1.
Liquidise or purée the strawberries with the sugar in a blender or food processor. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse until slushy. Serve immediately in four daiquiri or martini glasses.
