Jamu (Indonesian turmeric and ginger drink)
This simple Indonesian drink serves all kinds of health benefits thanks to the healing qualities of turmeric and ginger.
Ingredients (4)
- 10cm piece (70g) fresh turmeric, peeled, grated
- 15cm piece (90g) ginger, peeled, grated
- 1/2 cup (125ml) maple syrup
- Juice of 1 lemon
Method

1.Place turmeric and ginger in a saucepan with 5 cups (1.25L) water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes or until water is richly flavoured. Remove from the heat and stir in maple syrup and lemon juice, then cool to room temperature. Strain through a fine sieve and chill until cold. Serve chilled.
