Miso steaks with warm mirin slaw and sushi rice
A complete Japanese-inspired meal that is so easy, you can enjoy it midweek.
Ingredients (11)
- 1/4 cup (65g) red miso paste
- 4 x 200g beef sirloin steaks
- 1 1/2 cups (300g) sushi rice or medium-grain rice
- 1/4 cup (60ml) peanut oil
- 250g green beans
- 2 carrots, cut into matchsticks
- 2 tablespoons mirin
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 2 radishes, cut into matchsticks
- 1 teaspoons black sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoons white sesame seeds

1.Rub miso paste over steaks and set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

2.Meanwhile, cook the rice according to packet instructions. Drain and set aside.

3.Drizzle 2 tablespoons oil over steaks, heat frypan over medium-high heat and cook steaks for 3 minutes each side for medium-rare or until cooked to your liking. Set aside to rest, loosely covered with foil, for 5 minutes.

4.Wipe pan clean and heat remaining 1 tbs oil over medium-high heat. Add the beans and carrot, and cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Add the mirin and soy, and cook for a further 2 minutes or until slightly reduced. Add the radish and resting juices from the steak, then stir to combine and remove from heat.

5.Slice steak and serve with warm slaw and rice. Scatter with sesame seeds to serve.
