Spiced turtle doves
These spiced turtle dove biscuits instantly add a festive touch to any dessert.

Ingredients (8)

  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 100g dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cups (300g) plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Icing sugar, to dust

Method

  • 1.
    Using electric beaters, beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add egg and honey and beat to combine, then sift in flour and spices and, using a metal spoon, stir to form a dough. Enclose in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.

    Preheat the oven to 190°C and line 2 baking sheets with baking paper.

    Remove dough from fridge and allow to soften slightly. Halve, then place 1 half between 2 layers of plastic wrap and roll out until 8mm thick. Remove wrap. Use a turtle-dove-shaped cutter (or other decorative cutter) to cut biscuits. Place on baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake for 7 minutes until golden.

    Cool and store in an airtight container. Serve dusted with icing sugar.
