Is this is the happiest place on Earth?
The Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan is beloved by intrepid travellers for its zen-inducing sights – think unspoiled Himalayan mountain ranges and sacred, ancient monasteries. And now, a new accommodation offering is keeping the calm feels coming.

Following the successful launch of three lodges in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha earlier this year, Six Senses Bhutan has brought a fourth, five-star luxury stay to the Himalayan kingdom with Six Senses Gangtey.

A cantilevered bridge-like lodge forms a bird-watching sanctuary, at an elevation of 3,000 metres, and affords guests 180-degree views of the valleys below and conservation area surrounding it. Its design pays homage to Bhutanese farmhouse architecture, having been built using traditional techniques.

The lodge features eight suites – each with an inimitable view – and a two-bedroom villa with a private spa. A natural an appeasing palette of warm earth tones put guests at east, while comfortable furnishings give guests a chance to relax after days spent exploring.

The lodge’s spa features two ‘swedana’ rooms where herb-infused steam therapies take place. And, in keeping with the pace of the kingdom, every treatment starts with the use of a sodalite crystal, ‘to set positive intentions through breathing and meditation’. Treatments are also followed by Bhutanese chanting and singing bowls.

Baa Zam is the lodge’s signature restaurant (meaning ‘bridge’ in Dzongkha), which serves up locally-influenced dishes.
