Two months spent helping out on sustainability projects in The Bahamas, anyone? Applications are now open.
Congratulations: you’ve made it through January. But now what? With a booze-free couple of weeks of Feb Fast still on the horizon, things may be looking a little grim. And yet, there’s always the Bahamas. Airbnb has announced the launch of its Bahamas Sabbatical, and we’re all ears.
If you’re ready to live like an islander, while supporting a country seeking help in the wake of Hurricane Dorian, a 700-island archipelago awaits. (Think pink sand beaches, sprawling reef systems and incredibly clear waters.)

In 2020, Airbnb and The Bahamas National Trust (a local NGO responsible for protecting national parks in this part of the world) are encouraging travellers to support The Bahamas through one life-affirming opportunity.

Just five participants will be selected to take part in the sabbatical, which will see them work alongside Bahamians to help preserve natural resources, support growing eco-industries, taking care of national parks and empowering the community leaders to foster sustainable practices. During the two-month sojourn, participants will help restore coral reefs in Andros, support ethical fishing in Exuma, and promote traditional agriculture in Eleuthera.
If this smacks of ‘trip of a lifetime’ for you, be sure to get your application in by 18 February, 2020.
