And it's being touted for its lengthly list of proposed health benefits.
High-altitude experiences are usually reserved for those willing to scale dramatic heights in cold, alpine regions. But now, in the Victorian town of Bright, Big Sky Retreats has opened its ‘Altitude I’ villa, which is geared-up with ‘simulated altitude sleep technology’ – though it looks like a normal villa, and comes without the climb.
How does it work? Using ‘Box Altitude’ technology, the two-bedroom accommodation offering will make guests feel as though they’re experiencing high-altitude sleeping conditions as filtered hypoxic air (a lower concentration of oxygen) fills the room.

The conditions, according the the retreat company, is controlled by smart sensors (via an iPad or smart phone app) – and safety is said to be ensured because each room’s oxygen concentration level is moderated ‘depending on what stage of sleep each individual is at.’
As for the touted health benefits, the technology promises to increase fitness, energy levels and ‘cognitive threshold,’ while you sleep soundly.
The founder of Big Sky Retreats, Paul Absalom has said, “We’re thrilled to be bringing altitude travel-inspired accommodation to the Australian market. This technology is amazing and not just for elite athletes anymore – sleeping at altitude is regarded among athletes and sports scientists as delivering physical benefits by simply increasing the delivery of oxygen through the blood. We want to take that science and offer it to the everyday traveller, significantly improving their lifestyle while on vacation.”
He adds, “Other than atop a mountain, where else can you sleep while losing weight, improving your fitness, increasing energy levels and enjoying a boost in general health and wellbeing?”

The founder of the villa’s Box Altitude technology, Rico Rogers, said, “Now everybody has the opportunity to experience the big thing in sport science that everyone’s doing.”
A fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and a private fitness room are all on site, and in-house chefs, massage treatments and personal workouts are also on offer.
