At The Mulia, the most difficult choice you’ll make is what to devour next. Strategy is key.
With entire rooms dedicated exclusively to desserts, a world-famous Sunday brunch locale and more restaurant choices than some cities can lay claim to, this sprawling resort is a kingdom where food reigns supreme.

Perched on prime beachfront in Nusa Dua, Bali, The Mulia has all the hallmark makings of a bliss-inducing island holiday – think fabulous spa treatments, more pools than your neighbourhood is home to, an expansive fitness centre, chic luxury suites, impeccably manicured tropical gardens and some seriously incredible private villas. And yet, the jewel in the crown of this empire is its remarkable, and perhaps unrivalled, food offering.

Often, resorts get so many of the elements right – the bedding is comfortable, the rooms are beautifully adorned and the pools are picture-perfect surrounded by large-scale sculptures – but, when it comes to the dining options, things tend to take a downhill turn. And yes, The Mulia presents its cloud-like bedding, sophisticated suites and postcard-worthy poolside photo opportunities, but the food, for those with discerning tastes, is also worth the trip alone. It’s little wonder so many A-listers have been setting up camp in its roomy villas.

Here, you can start your day with a selection of a la carte or self-serve breakfast items: from fresh, tropical Balinese fruits and mountains of flavourful nasi goreng, to fluffy ricotta and lemon pancakes or crab cakes featuring the morning’s catch. Breakfast dishes from across Asia and the West are available to suit all travellers’ tastes, served alongside barista-made coffees and reviving juices.

Come mid-morning, Soleil’s Sunday Brunch fills with both guests and visitors. The dual buffet and cook-to-order locale has become a go-to for those with healthy appetites seeking platefuls of vibrant dishes from around the world. Work your way through an impressive international cheese selection, toward plates of local seafood piled high, energising salads, a carvery, delicate desserts, and, to finish, a chocolate fountain. And, if the buffet selection isn’t enough, order from a selection of melt-in-your-mouth, freshly made pastas, or perhaps the escargot.

Afternoons bring guests out of the pools, hotel, resort and villas, and into the lounges and bars for high teas (if stomach room permits) and the resort’s signature cocktails. Sky Bar is the pick of the bunch for cocktails with a side of waterfront views. On the open-top balcony, icy beverages featuring the best in local produce are served creatively – mango, coconut, pineapple and passionfruit top the list.

When dinnertime rolls around, you may start to consider adding a couple more nights to your stay at The Mulia. Between The Café (a large-scale buffet restaurant offering just about any cuisine you could hope to devour on holiday), Edogin (a refined Japanese locale) and Table8 (where dumplings and Chinese dishes are the order of the day), the choices are plentiful. Feeling exhausted following an extensive dinner? Call your private butler to have the bathtub filled for your arrival afterwards. And ensure you hop on a golf buggy to take you straight to that tub.

Then, there’s the La La Lune Dinner. Set under a full moon on a gently lit pier to the right of the resort’s private beach, the La La Lune Dinner is about as romantic as dining comes. Just try not to feel as though you’re on an episode of The Bachelor while enjoying a spot of private dining surrounded by water, as seven courses are delivered to your moonlit destination.

Of course, there are the sunrise yoga classes, hydrotherapy spa treatments (complete with an ice room), personal jacuzzis, cultural experiences, day trips to Ubud, impeccable service, private villa pools and beachside lazing to look forward to, but if you – like the delicious. team – take your dining seriously, there are few resorts better equipped to make your most imaginative food dreams a very real, and very satisfying, prospect.

To book your stay, visit The Mulia website – and, hot tip: get your dining strategy in order before you arrive.
