Golding Wines is a progressive family-run vineyard and cellar door, with a fairy-light-strewn function space in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Only 30 minutes from the city centre on the outskirts of Lobethal, its relaxed but manicured green lawns are a favourite of day-trippers, discerning families and wine lovers alike.

Better known for generous and high quality produce and relaxed charcuterie platters, Golding’s owners have turned their hands to a dining experience of an entirely different and memorable kind.

Fresh from a visit to South Africa’s Stellenbosch wine region, Lucy and Darren Golding were inspired by single person bird-watching nests they discovered while visiting the Cape Winelands.

Hence NIDO was born. NIDO means ‘nest’ in Italian, a nod to the family’s heritage (they arrived from Italy in the 1950s) and varietals they specialise in. Designed by Lucy and built onsite by Darren, the NIDO took over 50 hours to weave from willow sourced from the Golding’s property.

The result are human sized nests that can seat a maximum of six people and are dotted in secluded spots on vantage points throughout the vineyard.

“The views are just stunning and with a dedicated concierge service for the duration of each booking, it really is a special opportunity fro friends to relax and unwind,” says Lucy.

A four-course meal is served within the nest, offering a unique, premium food and wine experience with breathtaking vineyard views across the property’s 80 acres as you while away the day overlooking the Adelaide Hills.

“It’s a great afternoon out. Just as you’d imagine a nest to be, the NIDO is very cosy and perfect for a small group to hang out and enjoy the amazing food experience we create exclusively for our NIDO guests, and it’s all matched very carefully with our premium wines,” explains Lucy.
